There were 57 pies entered in the contest, judged by celebrity judges Donna Nowicki and Mary Jane Miller of Betty Crocker.
The 2013 Grand Champion pie was baked by Carol Marsh of Duluth. She was not present to hear about her win; however, Miller called her and said Marsh was completely taken by surprise, and thanked everyone in Braham for the great experience.
Other first and second place winners were Judy Olson of Braham, Dana Shockman of Arlington, Va., Michele Berg of Coon Rapids, Maddie Peters of Mora, Tess Burmaster of Braham, Laura Berglund of Shoreview, and Callan Eiden of Forest Lake.
After the pies were judged, they were auctioned off by Smith Auction House. Monies raised support BACK, with a percentage also supporting Braham Pie Day.
There were two memorable moments at the auction. One occurred with Judy Olson’s pie in memory of Lucy Studt was auctioned off for $750. A second happened when the “Pie of the Month” specialty offer was auctioned off at $900 to a resident of California, who agreed to share her winnings with relatives and friends in Minnesota. No pie sold for less than $25, and according to Marie Meyer from BACK, “It was the best total ever.”
