Norma Benny, age 87, of Cambridge passed away November 18, 2015, at Cambridge Medical Center.
Norma Jean Benny was born May 30, 1928 in Pana, Illinois to Ignace and Grace (Johnson) Fischer. During the war their family moved to Minnesota where Ignace worked for FMC. Norma graduated from Robbinsdale High School in 1946. On August 10, 1952, she married Donald Benny and they made their home in NE Minneapolis. They were blessed with two children, Jeff and Julie.
Norma had a great love of family. She ensured that the family connection and focus was always there. She also was instrumental in many roles with the Benny Machine Co. and the other family businesses over the years. Norma enjoyed playing games, especially Scrabble. Skilled with words, she almost always won – it was news if she ever lost! She was a dear mother, sister and friend, and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Kim; grandson, Ty; three sisters, Rita (Dave) Bret, Joyce (Adrian) Lewis and Frances “Roberta” Crabtree; brother, George Fischer; and by other relatives and friends. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter, Julie; two sisters, Mary Woosley and Betty Shores; sister-in-law, Loretta Fischer; and brothers-in-law, Ron Shores, Joe Woosley and Bill Crabtree.
Funeral service 10 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2015 at Strike Funeral Home, Cambridge Chapel with Rev. David Gerhardt officiating. Visitation 1 hour prior to the service. Interment at Gethsemane Cemetery in New Hope.
