Dear Editor:
The Cambridge City Council made the best decision at their meeting March 21 to put a resolution of the November ballot to add a .005 sales tax to the Minnesota sales tax to build a new library that includes the East Central Minnesota Library headquarters.
I have met students there for research and I have used the library with my children and my grandchildren. Libraries are not just a ‘nice to have’ community service. Libraries are important to the economy.
The United States Bureau of Economic Analysis estimates that every $1 invested in a library results in $3.81 economic growth. Just as roads are necessary for business to prosper so are libraries important investments.
They provide business with up to date information, improve the literacy of citizens, and gives families a free place to enjoy. The library employs over 30 people with good jobs. Thank you city council.
