Bluejacket Wrestlers take third at Park invite

Sports Round-Up w/RC-B Wrestling, C-I Gymnasts & C-I Girls Basketball

Cambridge-Isanti went 3-1 on Saturday to finish in third place at the Park of Cottage Grove Invite. Albert Lea, ranked No. 3 in Class AA, opened the tourney by defeating the Bluejackets 49-15 after opening a 43-0 lead. Drake Frikken stopped the string with a 3-0 decision at 182, and Jake Olson followed with a pin in that match. The Tigers went on to take the championship over Hutchinson.

The Bluejackets beat the host Wolfpack 42-24 at the tourney, getting pins from Casey Schlickenmayer, Aidan Larson and Corey Mei. The C-I boys also defeated Tartan 48-15 behind falls from Jordan Driscoll, Schlickenmayer, Martin Puttbrese, Jared Doty, Luke Rambow, Frikken and Will Flemister.

The Bluejackets finished the day by defeating Blue Earth 62-13 in the third-place match. Ripping off falls on the Buccaneers were Driscoll, Tate Torgerson, Monty Fredriksen, Rambow, Frikken, Jett Serie and Flemister.

• On Dec. 10, the Bluejackets defeated host North Branch 75-0 in a Mississippi 8 match, gaining six forfeits from the Vikings. Checking in with first-period pins that night were Torgerson, Fredriksen, Puttbrese, Doty, Mei and Olson.

RC-B Wrestlers 7th at Big Lake

The Rush City-Braham wrestlers placed seventh among 12 teams at the Dec. 11 Big Lake Invite. GRC partner Aitkin took third and Pine City-Hinckley was 11th.

Top placers for the Tigers were Anthony Hermanson (2nd), Jacob Lindgren (3rd), Dylan Mielke (3rd) and Dan Mielke (4th).

 

C-I Gymnasts beat Vikings

The Cambridge-Isanti gymnasts gained a key earl-season victory after out-scoring North Branch 138.9-136.925 on Dec. 10. Charlene Morke paved the way by leading the Bluejackets on the Bars (9.45), Beam (9.275) and Floor (9.375). MollyAnn Harvey had the top Vault score of 8.65. Hannah Haight swung for a 9.075 on the Bars.

On Saturday, the Bluejackets placed fourth at the St. Cloud Tech Invite won by the host Tigers. Morke tied for first on the Bars with a 9.2 and put up a personal-best Floor routine of 9.5 for third place. Harvey was seventh in All-Around scoring with 35.3 points.

 

C-I Girls hoops tripped by Faribault

Host Faribault got past Cambridge-Isanti 42-39 in non-conference girls basketball action Dec. 12. Lauryn Swanson scored 18 for C-I, while Lainie Cox added nine points, 13 rebounds and three steals. Jana Swanson also worked for six points, eight rebounds and three steals.

On Dec. 11, Simley stung the host Bluejackets 60-32. Cox doubled up with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Lydia Westberg added six points.
