Adam West struck out eight through six innings, and Dallas Nelson cleaned up by allowing just three hits over the final three innings when Isanti defeated visiting Champlin 8-0 June 7.
Matt Duong was 4-for-5 at the plate, driving in three runs to lead the Redbird offense. Packy Lind and Jake Maros both added two hits. The Redbirds are 1-2 in Metro Minny games, 5-5 overall heading into this week.
• The prior weekend, Isanti took 2nd place at the Sartell/St. Stephen tournament, opening with a 15-0 win over Nisswa that was highlighted by Tyler Schaff’s five-RBI night which included a three-run homer. In the semifinals, the Redbirds knocked off St. Stephen 6-1 behind homers from Kyle Johnson and Lind.
The championship went to Sartell 4-3 as Wade Reichmann and Duong shared pitching duties. Lind stayed hot with three hits; B.J. Samuelson and Johnson both stroked two hits.
Next up: at Coon Rapids June 12 (7:30 p.m.); at Sauk Rapids Cyclones June 14 (7:30 p.m.); home vs. Mora June 15 (5 p.m.); home vs. Anoka June 16 (7 p.m.).
• Rum River picked up an Eastern Minny victory by defeating Sartell 14-4 June 2. Andy Julkowski started for the Bandits, and Cole Willcoxen pitched four hitless relief innings. Julkowski and Mike Koplitz both had three hits in the game, with Koplitz leading with three RBI. Kevin Auth and Nate Knudsen added two hits apiece.
On June 5, Mora tipped the Bandits 4-1 despite a good pitching night from Tyler Kronstedt (two earned runs, 4 Ks). He had two hits to lead the offense.
