U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan announced his Service Academy Program for the 2015-2016 Academic Year.
Every year, Nolan has the ability to nominate graduating students to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York (Army), the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland (Navy), the U.S. Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado (Air Force), and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point, New York.
“It’s an enormous honor to take part in one of our nation’s oldest traditions of nominating accomplished and motivated young people for acceptance into our fine service academies,” Nolan said. “Each year we have had more students engage in the program and I have been impressed with the increasingly qualified resumes of our 8th District students.”
Nolan’s office accepts applications for students seeking a service academy nomination until Nov. 1, 2015. Each year Nolan establishes a distinguished committee of former service academy graduates that interview potential nominees, review their applications, and make recommendations for each academy. Nolan will then make his nominations by Jan. 31, 2016.
A congressional nomination on its own does not guarantee admission to one of the service academies, as the academies’ respective admissions boards decide who is ultimately admitted.
