The Isanti County Recorder’s Office has converted its volumes of land records to digital form in a move toward keeping aligned with today’s technology while preserving a big part of local history.
Connie Lindberg, recorder and registrar of titles for Isanti County, said the staff from U.S. Imaging, a company out of Saginaw, Michigan, recently wrapped up scanning 566 books and 432,803 images for the digital transition. When it goes online, hopefully by January, she noted, the project will make researching real estate records more convenient for individuals and companies.
“Everyone wants digital these days, but the main idea with this project was to preserve the records,” Lindberg said. “We’re one of the last counties to go online.”
The conversion project included separating the deeds, so each has a separate page, and cropping the documents for clear viewing. When the real estate records become accessible online, there will be a fee of $1 per copy; taxpayers in Isanti County do not pay for deeds, she explained.
Lindberg said the cost of the project was covered under the Recorder’s Office technology fund, which is fed by a portion of the state-set fee of $46 for any real estate records, such as mortgages, deeds and satisfactions.
The Recorder’s Office is responsible for filing and recording all documents pertaining to real estate, liens against personal property, military discharges, notary commissions, and state and federal tax liens. Birth, death and marriage records are maintained there, also.
The Isanti County Recorder’s Office is located on the first floor of the Isanti County Government Center at 555 18th Ave. SW, Cambridge and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The office can be reached at 763-689-1191.
