On Friday, June 2, students from throughout East Central Minnesota were added to the list of over 18 million others who have earned a GED diploma making them members of the “largest high school” in America.
Local graduates included Paige Amundsen, Darin Bartholomaus, Troy Beckers, Austin Carlson, Marissah Kersten-Green, Chris Parsons, Maria Patino, Brandon Polley, Bryan Robins and Arian Timm.
Commencement speakers were Dave Maurer, director of Community Education for Cambridge-Isanti Schools and GED graduate Darin Bartholomaus.
The GED diploma test has played an important role in American’s education landscape for 70 years. The testing program’s origins are rooted in educating young members of the military returning from World War II.
Earning a high school credential is a stepping-stone toward college, a better career, and family-sustaining wages so graduates recognize the significance of this accomplishment. Three of the graduates who earned their GED diplomas earlier in 2016 have already started their college education.
