Play Inc is taking registrations for the upcoming Summer Youth Theatre season.

With four programs for school-aged students of any grade, the opportunities abound. This is a summer of family-friendly storytelling. All of their programs this summer will explore well-known tales and put exciting and fun new twists that any theatre student will want to be a part of.

For students that have just finished kindergarten or first-grade (Little League Players, Rookie Division), they have a production of “The Three Piggy Opera.” This is a fun musical retelling of the three little pigs story.
“Beebop with Aesop” will be presented by the Little League Players Big Leagues (open to students who have completed second, third, or fourth-grade). This musical with a rock and roll style score will have you tapping your toes to a fun-filled beat as the endearing fables of Aesop are told.

The summer theatre will again be directed by Sarah Knudsvig, but they are excited to welcome Christa Klawitter as assistant director. Klawitter is no stranger to Play Inc, having performed in shows both as a student and as an adult.

The Junior Theatre Troupe (program for fifth- through eighth-graders) is back this year with a little something familiar and something new.
For the first time, they welcome a new director to the Junior Theatre Troupe. Jared Faust, high school drama director in Mora, will be joining the team as Viva Anderson moves to a new role in the program. Faust has starred in several of Play Inc’s adult productions, but is probably best known for his role as Franz Liebkin in 2015’s “The Producers.” The Junior Troupe is bringing back one of its most fun shows from its early days. They will present the musical, Honk, Jr., an exciting retelling of the “Ugly Duckling” story.

The summer will end with the colorful, Caribbean story of “Once On This Island.” The Yaebo Players (students in ninth- through 12th-grade) will bring this island tale to vibrant life as they “tell the story” of TiMoune, a peasant girl who falls in love with a rich boy from the other side of the island. This story of “two worlds” is reminiscent of the Hans Christian Anderson story of the “The Little Mermaid.” This is a show director Aaron Knudsvig has been interested in doing for quite some time.

Play Inc would like to welcome anybody who has completed seventh-grade and above that has interest in lighting or sound to join their Tech Team, and get trained in all the skills needed for technical theatre.

To register for any of these programs, visit www.playinconline.org and follow the Summer Youth Theatre tab at the top. Registration closes May 12. If interested in seeing these shows, visit their webpage in June when tickets go on sale.
