C-I Gymnasts’ scores keep climbing in latest win

SPORTS ROUND-UP: Steady improvement was turned in by the Cambridge-Isanti gymnastics team once again at the 139.5-131.5 road victory at St. Francis Dec. 20, improving its Mississippi 8 duals mark at 2-1 on the season.

Morgan Urness (9.1) and Tori Nelson (8.95) posted career-best scores on the Beam to lead the Bluejackets against the Saints, with Hannah Haight adding an 8.9 on the Beam that evening. Urness also scored a 9.025 on the Floor and a team-high 8.925 on the Vault.

Haight had the team’s top score on the Bars with her 8.95, and Sydney Crocker finished at 8.05 on that event.

C-I Swim bested by Bison

Visiting Buffalo went home with a 97-84 win over Cambridge boys swimming & diving in the teams’ Mississippi 8 opener Dec. 19.

Senior Parker Brown kept diving well for the Bluejackets, setting a new team and pool record with 268.7 points. Cody Hemmelgarn was 3rd for C-I with 205.5 points off the board.

Josh Minnihan swam a 1:01.5 in the 100 Butterfly, and John Solberg went 54.1 in the 100 Freestyle to add 1st places against the Bison. Taking 2nd for C-I were Peter Edblad (200 Free), Minnihan (200 IM), Alex Heinen (500 Free), and Solberg (100 Backstroke).

• On Dec. 17, visiting Spring Lake Park won a non-conference dual in the CIHS pool 98-83.
