in_academyArt and Science Academy students are learning to express their ideas and feelings through different art forms such as visual art, media or digital art, music and theater. Students are also encouraged to create art on their school lockers.

This may seem like an unusual practice, but Carlo Galeazzi, school founder, believes that something as simple as this helps students feel more personally connected to the school and can lead to students taking higher levels of ownership in the school building and school programs.

Jill Arendt, school administrator says, “Students worked on designs for their lockers in art class and many of the designs represent specific art standards and styles of drawing.” Students get to use what they learned to create artwork for parents and the community to observe.  in_academy1

In a recent school satisfaction survey, 98 percent of parents indicated that their child “enjoys going to school each day,” and 100 percent said that their child “feels happy and positive about being in his or her classroom.”
