Play Inc has an exciting fall production this year. They will be producing its first ever Evening of One-Acts. The evening will be a set of three One-Act Plays. Performances will be held on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15 at Cambridge Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. com_ACT1

Tickets can be purchased at www.playinconline.org or at the door on the evening of performances at Cambridge Lutheran Church.

Two weeks ago they introduced Act I, Play Inc’s character education group iPLAY. Act 2 and 3 belong to the middle schoolers production of “Box,” and the adults production of “A Merry Regiment of Women.”

Sometimes we choose the way the world sees us. Black box – indestructible. Jewelry box – plain on the outside, shiny on the inside. Sometimes our box is defined by others – our parents, our friends, our enemies. A box built by others can feel small, confined, impossible.

How do we handle the boxes imposed upon us because of our gender? Our race? From peer pressure? From parent pressure? Do we have to live with our box for the rest of our lives? Can we change?

Box is the first Middle School One-Act theater adventure that Play Inc. has presented. Box cast includes 11 local actors ranging from fifth- through eighth-grade, hailing from Cambridge, Isanti and Pine City. Ariana Le Vau, Ari Carlile, Leah Johnson, Aidan Lester, Maya Phillips, Hope Williams, Grace Williams, Reese Wilking, Christy Haglund, Norah Haglund and Owen Neel will take the stage.

“A Merry Regiment of Women” takes us on a wayward look at Shakespeare. One of the many goals Play Inc directors have is to choose shows that are entertaining to the audience but also provide growth for the actors; this show hits the perfect balance. If your knowledge of Shakespeare is little to none this show is perfect.

Through out the performance Viva Anderson as Lady Macbeth will introduce you to nine of William Shakespeare primary characters. With witty writing and Jessica Faust as Kate the Shrew you will become very familiar with all sorts of Shakespearean antics. Romeo (Shane Korte) and Juliet (Hannah Haglund) take us through some of Shakespeare’s famous lines while Juliet’s Nurse (Mac Lucking) keeps us grounded. Even a Shakespearean expert will appreciate Desdemona (Carmell Korte) and Cleopatra’s (Bethany Cleary) lines as they play with the “bards work.”

And no show would be complete without the drama of King Henry (Kyle Hanson) or the overbearing personality of Petruchio (Jared Faust). Traditionally Shakespeares plays are lengthy and his language tedious but this show has been modernized just enough to make it easy to follow and laugh out loud funny. They encourage you to come see what happens in this ever present challenge of boys versus girls.

Play Inc will also be holding auditions for The Gift of the Magi on Tuesday, Oct. 18. Come and join on stage or behind the scenes, after you’re done enjoying the show from the audience.
