An all-class reunion is being planned in 2017 for graduates from the Cambridge-Isanti School District.
The reunion will take place on Aug. 19, 2017, at the Isanti County Fairgrounds in Cambridge. An alumni art show and possibly alumni musical entertainment are being planned. The likely time frame for the reunion is 1 p.m. to midnight. Camping will available for Bluejacket alumni traveling far or staying the weekend or more.
The reunion has been in the works since early 2015. The committee planning the reunion includes Kay Kass, Pam Baar, Kelly Lillemoen, Cullen Bartz, Julie Nelson, Shari Van Alstine, Marlys Fast and Lynne Dablow.
“The impetus for this was that a lot of classes don’t have very good turn out” for their reunions, Parker said, “and so we’d always said it would really be kind of fun to have a couple classes before and a couple after in that class reunion deal.”
From there the idea blossomed into an all-school reunion.
In addition to former students, former faculty of the district will be welcome to attend the reunion. Planning committee member Kay Kass did not graduate from the Cambridge-Isanti School District, but she did teach art within it.
The Isanti County Historical Society is involved with the reunion effort through Dablow. She is hoping the reunion can help replenish some of the records and materials the historical society lost in the arson fire that burned down its old building in 2011, Kass said.
“We’re hoping that when people come they will bring some memorabilia that could go into the historical society to make up for all the stuff that was burned,” Kass said.
The society hopes that attendees of the all-school reunion will be able to donate materials they have that are relevant to the school district’s history, or at least to leave such materials at the historical society to be scanned and put into their archive, then picked back up by their owners.
The committee has high hopes for attendance at the reunion next summer. Their Facebook group currently has over 3,000 members.
“It’s hard to put a number on it,” Bartz said, “but we hope we get thousands of people.”
