A woman is facing felony drug charges after being pulled over for speeding in Stanford Township.
Chastity Ann Vokaty, of Isanti, appeared Aug. 29 before Judge Amy Brosnahan in Isanti County District Court in Cambridge where she was charged with felonies third-degree drug sale and two counts of fifth-degree drug possession and misdemeanors driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.
Bail was set at $12,000 without conditions or $1,000 with conditions, and her next court appearance was set for Sept. 29.
The traffic stop occurred on Aug. 26 in the area of Highway 47 and 253rd Avenue in Stanford Township. The narcotics were found during a search of the vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint:
Isanti County Investigator Rob Bowker was on patrol when he observed a Pontiac Grand Prix traveling at 63 mph and initiated a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as Vokaty, and she had a male passenger with her. Bowker asked for proof of insurance and Vokaty provided a card that expired in May.
Bowker returned to his squad and ran the names through his squad computer. Vokaty showed a revoked license with recent failures to appear and a recent conviction for no proof of insurance. The male passenger also had a canceled license. Based on the current driving conduct and prior history, Bowker placed Vokaty under arrest and impounded the vehicle due to its location on the side of the road and the lack of an available driver.
An inventory search of the vehicle revealed a wallet inside Vokaty’s purse. Inside the wallet Bowker located a clear plastic bag with white residue. Also located inside the purse was a pill bottle that contained eight pills identified as Alprazolam, a schedule IV controlled substance. No prescription information was provided.
Isanti County Deputy Alex Schlangen and Sgt. Wade Book arrived to assist. Schlangen located a multicolored bag on the floor on the passenger side. Inside was a zippered pouch that contained several drug-related items including two bags with residue, a pink straw, a glass pipe, a metal clean-out rod and a paper bindle with a crystal rock-like substance in a mesh pouch. Also located was a clear bag with a large amount of crystal-like rock substance and a black scale. The proximity of the scale, bags and the large amount of controlled substance, along with the smaller bindle bag of substance in a different packaging indicated these substances were in a condition ready to be sold.
Under Miranda, Vokaty admitted the multicolored bag was hers. After questioning about the wallet, Vokaty invoked her right to remain silent and Bowker discontinued questioning.
At the Isanti County Sheriff’s Office the clear plastic bag with residue and the large amount of crystal-like substance tested positive for methamphetamine. The weight of the larger amount of crystal-like substance was determined to be approximately 7.5 grams. The other rock-like substance in the paper bindle in the mesh pouch was sent to the BCA for analysis.
