Cambridge-Isanti owned a 27-0 into the third quarter and went on to defeat host Duluth East 46-12 in Sept. 6 Mississippi 8 action.
Kyle Chromy (game-high 143 rushing yards) scored on runs of 12 and 5 yards for a 13-0 Bluejacket lead in the first quarter. John Solberg snuck in from the 1 yard line early in the second quarter for the 20-0 lead at the half, then he took off on a 27-yard run to extend the Jackets’ lead in the third quarter.
The Greyhounds made some noise by scoring two touchdowns 4:30 apart, including breaking off a 69-yard TD run, to cut it to 27-12. But the Bluejackets answered back with three more scores in the fourth to win going away. Hunter Vavra (135 rushing yards) scored on an 11-yard run just into the quarter, followed quickly by Solberg connecting with Matt Kuehn for a 35-yard TD reception. Vavra cleaned up with a 3-yard TD with 4:21 to play.
• Next up: The Bluejackets travel to North Branch Sept. 13 to renew their rivalry with the Vikings.
