The Isanti County News allows each candidate running for a local office one free filing statement announcing their candidacy.
Filing statements are not solicited by this newspaper. Candidates may submit a filing statement if they so desire; however, if a filing statement is not received by a candidate, there will not be any attempts by the newspaper to contact the candidate about the free filing statement.
Filing statements and candidate photos can be emailed to editor.countynews@ecm-inc.com or dropped off at or mailed to 234 S. Main St., Cambridge, MN 55008.
The announcement must be 300 words or less and may include the candidate’s photo. The newspaper reserves the right to edit filing statements. A candidate’s website, Facebook page, Twitter page, email addresses and other social media sites cannot be included with their filing statements. A candidate is allowed to put in their phone number for further contact information.
The filing period opens Aug. 2 and closes Aug. 16 for Braham City Council, Cambridge City Council and Cambridge-Isanti School Board. Candidates running for those offices must submit their filing statements by 4:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, for final publication in the Aug. 31 edition. Free filing statements for these races will not be published after the Aug. 31 edition unless as a paid advertisement.
Political Letters to the Editor:
The following are some guidelines adopted by ECM Publishers regarding election letters to the editor. Letters can be emailed to editor.countynews@ecm-inc.com.
All letters must include the letter writer’s name, address and phone number for verification purposes only. Letters from Isanti County residents will be given preference.
Letters need to be 350 words or less; however, we reserve the right to make an exception. In most cases, letters from candidates will not be accepted. The newspaper reserves the right to not publish any letter and reserves the right to edit letters. Letter writers need to identify themselves if they are part of the candidate’s campaign. Letter writers can submit one letter per 30 days unless a rebuttal letter is needed.
No new election-related letters are published in the edition prior to the election. If a letter writer wants to submit a letter regarding an Aug. 9 primary election, the last edition we would publish this letter is in our July 27 edition. The only letters that will be published in our Aug. 3 edition would be from a candidate submitting a direct response to a letter printed in our July 27 edition; however, the candidate cannot bring up any new issues or topics.
The last edition we will print any new general election letters will be in our Oct. 19 edition. No election letters will be published in our Oct. 26 edition unless it’s from a candidate submitting a direct response to a letter printed in our Oct. 19 edition; however, the candidate cannot bring up any new issues or topics.
