The North 65 Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Chamber Cup golf tournament at Purple Hawk Country Club in Cambridge on Monday, July 25.

The day of golfing serves as both a fundraiser for the chamber’s efforts throughout the year and as a networking event for local business people.

Registration the day of the tournament will begin at 11:30 a.m. The tournament will have a shotgun start of 12:30 p.m. At 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served, catered by the Brass Rail. Prizes and awards will be given out during the dinner. People can also register solely for the dinner for $20.

The Chamber is still accepting teams and sponsors for the event. It is ordering more carts to accommodate the greater than usual number of golfers that will be on the course that day. The tournament is a four-person scramble. Golfers can register in a team of four for $300 (includes cart and dinner) or as an individual for $75 (includes cart and dinner).

The tournament is meant to be enjoyable for “all golfing levels,” according to the promotional flier. In the golf scramble format, each member of a team hits a shot from the tee at a given hole, but for the next shot each team member is allowed to hit from the position of the best previous shot taken by a member of their team.

The Chamber Cup tournament has been going on for over a decade, said Eric Champion, director of the North 65 Chamber of Commerce. Some of this year’s proceeds from the tournament will help fund the chamber’s new Keep it Local campaign, which encourages members of the community to spend their money at local businesses to benefit the local economy.

“This is a tournament that pretty much supports the general fund for the chamber,” Champion said.

Promotional fliers for the tournament listed Friday, July 15, as the deadline for teams and individuals to register, but Champion said that was not a very hard cutoff and that they are continuing to accept more teams.

“We’ll even do day-of registrations,” Champion said.

The tournament’s major sponsor is Grand Casino Hinckley. There will be a hole-in-one contest sponsored by John Hirsch’s Cambridge Motors, for which the grand prize will be a car.

Other sponsors will host various contests and activities alongside the tournament as well, including a putting competition sponsored by Cambridge State Bank and games at the tee boxes along the golf course. The putting contest will be overseen by the Cambridge and Isanti Ambassador programs, Champion said.

Prior to the beginning of the tournament there will be a raffle for a pair of “Partee Carts,” stocked with refreshments and supplies for the day on the course, which the raffle-winners will have use of. The Partee Carts are sponsored by Coldwell Banker of Cambridge.
