Many incumbents face challengers this November

The filing period closed May 31 for federal and state races, Isanti County Commissioner races and Isanti City Council. The following is a listing of those who have filed:

U.S. Representative District 8: Rick Nolan (DFL, incumbent) and Stewart Mills (R).

State Senator District 31: Michelle Benson (R, incumbent) and Ricky Englund (DFL).

State Senator District 32: Mark Koran (R), Sean Nienow (R, incumbent) and Tim Nelson (DFL). With two Republican candidates, an Aug. 9 primary election will be held.

State Representative District 31A: Kurt Daudt (R, incumbent), Alan Duff (R) and Sarah Udvig (DFL). With two Republican candidates, an Aug. 9 primary election will be held.

State Representative District 32A: Brian Johnson (R, incumbent) and Paul Gammel (DFL).

County Commissioner District 2: Terry Turnquist (elected during a special election in November 2014) and Loren Davis.

County Commissioner District 3: Greg Anderson (incumbent) and Tim Swanson.

County Commissioner District 4: Mike Warring (incumbent) and Jim Kennedy.

Isanti City Council: Juanita Stumne, Steven Lundeen (current council member) and Ross Lorinser (current appointed council member due to vacant seat). There are two open seats in the November general election.

The candidates who had a May 31 filing deadline will no longer be allowed a free filing statement in this newspaper. Any such statement will have to be published as a paid advertisement. Candidates who submitted a free filing statement appear in this week’s newspaper on pages 7 and 13.

For Cambridge City Council, Braham City Council and the Cambridge-Isanti School Board, the filing period opens Aug. 2 and closes Aug. 16.
