Alexandria’s Theatre L’Homme Dieu offers live entertainment all summer long

Nestled in the heart of Minnesota’s West Central Lakes region, Theatre L’Homme Dieu offers a wide range of arts and entertainment opportunities to visitors to the Alexandria area. The theatre opened its doors for the first time in 1961 and has been thrilling area residents and visitors for over 55 years.

In 2016, Theatre L’Homme Dieu will feature several popular acts from across the Upper Midwest.

Collective Unconscious has grown to become one of Minnesota’s premiere bands. They perform their own music as well as covers of popular songs by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. They will be performing Friday, June 10 at 7:30 pm.

That Wonder Boy is a comedic performance by comedian and storyteller Bob Stromberg, who will appear from Tuesday, June 21, to Sunday, June 26. Stromberg weaves a creative tale that explores life and art as seen through the eyes of a youngster who overcame a happy childhood to become a comedic artist.

A Tribute to Neil Diamond will be performed by accomplished musician Matt Vee. He and his band will be performing some of Neil Diamond’s greatest hits live on Thursday, June 30, and Friday, July 1.

The show “River” will be performed Tuesday, July 5, through Sunday, July 10, and will feature some of the popular women’s music of the 1960s and ‘70s when female musicians like Joni Mitchell, Carly Simon, and Carole King were at the height of their popularity.

The “Urinetown” musical will be performed from Tuesday, July 12, through Sunday, June 17. The musical takes a satirical look at the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, bureaucracy, corporate mismanagement and municipal politics. The performance combines humor and musical performance to make light of topics that are sometimes taken too seriously.

“Love, Loss and What I Wore” is based on the best-selling book by Ilene Beckerman. The show will run from Tuesday, July 26, through Sunday, July 31. It features an intimate collection of stories by Nora and Delia Ephron. The performance has earned international acclaim and even spent two years performed on Broadway.

“A Sea Doo Named Desire” will be performed from Tuesday, Aug. 2, through Tuesday, Aug. 9. It takes a humorous look at many popular Minnesotan topics.

“Country Classics” on Wednesday, Aug. 10, will again feature the musical stylings of Matt Vee as he and his band perform a tribute to the original stars of the golden age of country music.


The box office at Theatre L’Homme Dieu is open from Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. On weekends, the box office opens two hours prior to performance.

Beyond offering musical, comedic and theatrical performances, Theatre L’Homme Dieu also offers special classes and workshops for visitors and area residents to hone their skills as performers.
