Jade Newman fired a four-over 76 to lead the Cambridge-Isanti girls golf squad at the Dutch Legacy at Craguns 15-team invitational. Newman was co-medalist at the tourney with Ashlyn Guggisberg of Minnewaska.
The Bluejackets finished in eighth place with a 397 total as section-partner Elk River took first at 343. Monticello of the Mississippi 8 was fifth at 389. Also teeing it up for C-I were Ashley Nyblom (103), Sam Brown (108), MollyAnn Harvey (110), Marie Knutson (117) and Jess Schultz (124).
• Catching up on the season, the Bluejackets placed second behind St. Francis at Chisago CC on April 18. Pacing the team that round were Newman (81), Harvey (100), Brown (100) and Nyblom (106). The team opened the season with an M-8 East meet at the Ponds by placing second to the host Saints where Newman (82), Harvey (96), Nyblom (107) and Molly Hennen (113) posted the leading C-I scores.
On April 14, Newman & Harvey teamed for a fine 77 to win the Pine City Scramble by 10 strokes. Schultz & Nyblom (89) and Hennen & Knutson (100) shot well enough for the Bluejackets to bring home the championship trophy, noted Coach Steve Hanson.
Bluejacket Boys at rainy invite
Cambridge-Isanti boys golf placed 12th out of 18 teams at the wet White Bear Lake Invitational at Indian Hills GC on Monday, April 25. The Bluejackets combined for a 336 to place behind meet champ Edina’s 308. Section partner Forest Lake tied the host Bears for second at 310.
Orion Collins came in at 83 to pace the Bluejackets. Seth Kirkeide (84), Brad Schintz (84) and Ryan Vick (85) were next to help the team place higher than section foes St. Francis and Duluth East at the invite.
