A Cambridge man is facing an assault charge following a fight in the front yard of a residence where he allegedly broke a man’s nose.

Joshua Michael Monroe, 28, was charged before Judge Amy Brosnahan March 1 in Isanti County District Court in Cambridge with felony third-degree assault, causing substantial bodily harm.

Monroe’s bail was set at $10,000 without conditions or $2,000 with conditions, and his next court appearance was set for April 27.

According to the criminal complaint:

On or about Feb. 27, Isanti County Deputy John McCarty responded to a residence on 289th Avenue Northwest for a report of two males fighting in the front yard.

Upon arrival, McCarty met with the victim who reported Monroe arrived at the residence with the victim’s daughter. Monroe was yelling and swearing at the victim’s daughter, so the victim told Monroe to not to speak to her that way. Monroe then began to yell at the victim, and the victim asked Monroe to leave. Monroe then pushed the victim who pushed Monroe back. Monroe then head-butted the victim, causing a cut on the victim’s nose.

Allina EMS arrived and advised the victim to go to the hospital, as it appeared his nose was broken.

Deputies then went to Monroe’s residence and he was arrested. While at the Isanti County Jail, Monroe provided a statement after receiving the Miranda warnings. Monroe said he had consumed 15 beers throughout the day and he head-butted the victim after the victim pushed him. Monroe said he had a cut on his forehead that he stated was from head-butting the victim.
