There are far too few opportunities I get to formally recognize our school board for serving the greater good of Cambridge-Isanti Schools, and the communities that support our schools.
This week during School Board Recognition Week, I thank the Cambridge-Isanti School Board as we honor them for all they do throughout the year to help make our schools places where learning means quality life skills along with pursued dreams and passions as a reality for all students.
While grades and test scores are important, our school board members are committed to more than just the academics of students; they concern themselves with the totality of each student’s learning and well-being as individuals. The vital opportunities our communities, staff members, and families have to instill character, support success, and inspire leadership in all students through their learning is in large part due to our school board.
Whether elected or appointed, Cambridge-Isanti School Board Members serve as a critical link between our communities and our schools. Our school board bears the responsibility for the educational experiences and achievements of all students as it serves as a voice for nearly 5-thousand students annually.
As an important conduit to the vitality and effectiveness of our schools, our school board members are community representatives in addition to being parents and grandparents, volunteers, civic organization members, professionals, and educators. They carry the values and needs of larger society in their leadership and vision for educating our students.
While the school board’s work is not always easy, glamorous or the challenges small, our board members lead with strong commitment to doing what is best for students and the communities we serve. The school board has done an exceptional job providing outstanding programs and services for all students’ education as well as protecting and maximizing the precious resources provided to the district from the state and local taxpayers.
Our school board safeguards students’ best interests and advocates on behalf of community-wide concerns that affect our schools. While our school board oversees school budgets, negotiates agreements, sets policies, and defines student outcomes, the education of children remains the purpose and the why behind what they do. Educating generations of students to make a future and a difference is significant.
As an important cornerstone of our communities, thank you to the Cambridge-Isanti School Board for all you do! Please join me and Cambridge-Isanti Schools in recognizing school board members Tim Hitchings (Chair), Gary Hawkins (Vice Chair), Lynn Wedlund (Clerk), Heidi Sprandel (Treasurer), Jenni Caulk (Director), Darcy Winsor (Director), and Kyle Johnson (Director).
